HEAT THERAPY
|
The HotRapp™ has been specifically designed to be used for hot or cold therapy. Effectively used to relieve pain & stiffness caused by muscle spasm, arthritis, joint disorders and more. Ease of use and long lasting therapy application has made the HotRapp™ popular among doctors and patients alike. In fact, the HotRapp™ was designed by a Chiropractor specifically to formulate a way that patients could use effective heat therapy at home in a quick and easy fashion.

 |
The HotRapp™ is designed with a Dual-Temp™ Delivery System. One side of the HotRapp™ delivers more heat or cold therapy than the other. This allows you to control the level of therapy delivered to the body that is comfortable to you. Initially you may want to use the thicker and more protective side of the HotRapp™ as it will be very hot fresh out of the microwave or very cold directly out of the freezer. After about 15 minutes, you can flip the HotRapp™ over and use the thinner and less protective side to continue your therapy treatment with more intensity. Always use one or two layers of toweling between you and the HotRapp™ to protect the skin from overheating or frostbite.

The use of a HotRapp™ for Heat Therapy:
|
|
Application of a HotRapp™ will have the following effects:
When you hurt there is nothing more soothing than the sensation of moist heat to help you relax. Applying a HotRapp™ to a painful area often helps to ease the pain. The soothing heat lasts for up to 30 minutes providing just the right amount of heat therapy to relax tight and spastic muscles or relieve the sypmtoms of arthritis and joint pain.
Hot & Cold Therapy Pain Relief:
The intense and long lasting heat & cold provided by the HotRapp™ stimulates receptors in the skin, sending signals to the spinal cord. These heat signals enter the spinal cord at the same time as the pain signals from the painful area do and they prevent further onward transmission of the pain signals to the brain and help break up the "Pain Cycle".

Directions for Hot Therapy Use:
Mild Heat: Place the HotRapp™ in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. To reheat, microwave for 20-30 seconds. Remove by the ribbon to avoid getting burned.
Intense Heat: Place the HotRapp™ in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (never longer than 3 minutes). To reheat, microwave for 30-45 seconds. Remove by the ribbon to avoid getting burned.
*Microwave oven times may very. Care should be taken when removing and using the HotRapp™ as it may be extremely hot and can cause burns.
Indications for Cold Therapy Use:
Cold therapy is recommended for acute pain from injuries and accidents within 72 hours of onset to relieve swelling and inflammation, reduce tissue bleeding and promote soft tissue healing. Examples of acute injuries include sprains & strains, overuse injuries such as tennis elbow or gardner's back and tendonitis from 10 hours of typing.
Cold therapy can also be used for chronic pain conditions such as arthritis, back and neck pain and muscle spasm. In fact, cold therapy actually relieves pain better than hot therapy because there are more cold receptors in the skin than hot receptors and there are more cold signals going to the spinal cord to break up the "pain cycle".
Precautions for Cold Therapy Use:
If you have heart disease or hypertension, it is advisable to consult your doctor or physiotherapist before application. If there is any discomfort during the application, stop immediately. Seek medical advice in case of doubt.
Contraindications for Cold Therapy:
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Peripheral vascular disease
- Open wounds
- Skin sensation impairment (e.g. some diabetic patients)
- Severe cognitive impairment (e.g. dementia patients)
- Cold allergy
Directions for Cold Therapy:
Put the HotRapp™ into a plastic freezer bag and place in freezer for about two hours before use. Leave the HotRapp™ in the freezer, ready for your next use. The plastic bag protects the HotRapp™ from condensation which will harm the Rapp. Apply the cold Rapp to the painful area with a layer of toweling between you and the Rapp. Treatment times vary depending on the thickness of the part; example treatment times are; 5 minutes over bony areas such as wrists, ankles and shins, 10-15 for the neck and shoulders and up to 20 minutes for the lower back.
Take advantage of the Dual-Temp™ delievery system. One side of the HotRapp™ delivers more cold therapy than the other. This allows you to control the level of therapy delivered to the body that is comfortable to you.
